A quick update — Recovery by Design is staying open.
This morning I said that if nothing changed today, I would be closing the Recovery by Design products and drawing a line under the plans I had for what came next.
Well, something changed.
Throughout today I’ve seen people visiting the website, looking at the Products page and, most importantly to me, actually taking the time to look at the Simple and Advanced Dashboard demonstrations.
I’ve also seen a significant increase in activity on the Recovery by Design Facebook page, including people who weren’t already following the page.
And yes — I even received my first purchase today. ❤️
But the thing that has encouraged me most isn’t the money.
It’s the interest.
That was what I was looking for this morning. Some indication that people were curious enough to actually look at what I’ve created.
So I’m going to stick to the same principle I’ve used throughout my own recovery:
Plan → Execute → Review → Understand → Improve.
Closing everything tonight when the evidence has changed wouldn’t follow that principle.
So Recovery by Design is staying open for at least another seven days.
I’m going to leave things alone, give people time to look, and then review what the numbers and feedback actually tell me.
If you’ve already visited the website, watched one of the demonstrations, shared a post or simply taken the time to look — thank you. It genuinely made a difference today.
And if you do take a look, I’d genuinely like to know what you think — good, bad or indifferent.

Recovery by Design
A difficult post for me to write this morning.
Over the last few months, I’ve put a huge amount of my spare time into Recovery by Design.
Not because I expected to make a fortune from it. Not because I thought I had all the answers. But because after everything I’ve been through, I genuinely believed that some of the things I’ve learned might help somebody else.
I’ve shared my story openly. I’ve built the website. I’ve created tools and dashboards based on the same methods I use myself. I’ve recorded demonstrations so people can see exactly what they are before deciding whether they’re useful to them.
And yesterday I went one step further.
I changed the products to name your own price.
The lowest Gumroad will physically allow me to set is 59p. If they allowed me to put them up for a penny, I genuinely would have done. Because at this point it isn’t about the money. If something I’ve created genuinely helped one person, that would mean far more to me than what they paid for it.
But despite everything I’ve tried, there has still been no interest in actually taking them.
I can see this morning that people are now visiting the Products page, and I genuinely appreciate every person who has taken the time to look. But nobody has gone any further.
So I have made a decision.
At close of play today, if nothing changes, I am going to remove the products and stop the work I had planned for Recovery by Design.
I had another three books lined up. I had plans to start a YouTube channel, with practical demonstrations rather than just talking about what people should do. And I wanted to create a community group where people recovering from heart attacks, illness or simply trying to change their lives could support one another and share what actually works for them.
There is already preparation and unfinished work sitting behind all of those ideas.
But if there genuinely isn’t an appetite for what I’m trying to create, I have to accept that.
I don’t want to keep pouring my time, energy and money into something nobody needs. And I don’t want folders full of unfinished books, videos and plans sitting there as a constant reminder of something I tried to build that nobody wanted.
So if today confirms that, I will delete the preparation as well and draw a line underneath it.
I’m disappointed. Of course I am.
Not because I haven’t made money from it. There hasn’t been a single sale, and that genuinely isn’t the part that hurts.
What hurts is believing that something born from one of the hardest experiences of my life might be useful to somebody else, putting everything I have into trying to make it useful — and discovering that perhaps I was wrong.
And there’s another side to this that I can’t ignore.
Every hour I spend building spreadsheets, writing books, creating webpages, recording demonstrations or planning what comes next is an hour I could have spent relaxing with my beautiful wife, Clare, and enjoying the life I fought so hard to get back.
That time matters to me.
So this isn’t intended as a guilt trip, and I’m certainly not asking anyone to buy something they don’t want.
I’m simply asking one thing.
If you’ve seen me talking about Recovery by Design and wondered what I’ve actually created, please take a look today.
You don’t have to buy anything. You don’t have to support me financially. You don’t even have to agree with my approach.
Just have a look.
If it’s useful to you, the products are name your own price from 59p, purely because that’s the lowest the platform permits.
And if it’s not useful, that’s absolutely fine too.
At least then I’ll know.
Because by close of play today, I need to decide whether Recovery by Design continues to grow into the books, videos and community I had planned…
or whether this is where I stop.
Either way, thank you to everyone who has read my posts, followed my journey, visited the website or sent me words of encouragement along the way.

Recovery by Design

Welcome to Recovery by Design
Thank you for joining me.
My name is Rob Montgomery.
After surviving a major heart attack in 2023, I discovered that recovery isn’t about finding the perfect diet, exercise programme or lifestyle.
It’s about building your own healthier lifestyle.
One that works for you.
One that fits your goals.
One that you can enjoy and sustain for years to come.
Why This Photograph Matters
This photograph reminds me why every small decision mattered.
Thanks to those decisions, I was able to stand proudly beside my son on his wedding day.
Recovery gave me far more than extra years.
It gave me moments like this.

Recovery by Design
Recovery isn’t about becoming someone else.
It’s about becoming healthy enough to enjoy the people and moments that matter most.
Whether you’re recovering from a heart attack, trying to lose weight, improve your fitness or simply live a healthier life, I hope my journey helps you begin writing your own story.
More Than Recovery
This is the life I was fighting to get back to.
There was a time when I never thought I would reach this milestone.
Celebrating my 60th birthday surrounded by my family wasn’t simply another birthday.
It was proof that recovery wasn’t just about surviving.
It was about living.

What Recovery by Design Is About
I haven’t created this website to tell people there is only one right way to become healthier.
There isn’t.
This is where I share the ideas, routines and lessons that helped me build a healthier life that I could actually sustain.
Nutrition. Exercise. Mindset. Routine. Family. Enjoyment.
Take what helps you. Adapt it to your own life. And build something that works for you.
Explore what might work for you. Take what helps. Leave what doesn’t.
